My love for Peranakan food just gets deeper and deeper.
The Straits Chinese inter-married the local Malays and addressed themselves
as Nyonya (ladies) & Baba (gentlemen).
Peranakan or Nyonya cuisine is a unique combination of Chinese
and Malay cooking traditions.
Most of these traditional Peranakan dishes are incredibly laborious
and elaborate to prepare and cook but the result is a cuisine that is intensely deep,
rich, bold and colourful.
These dishes could easily make me eat two bowls of coconut rice without even breaking a sweat.
