Meze Me Grove, Annangrove

This quiet neighbourhood gem in Annangrove with an array of native flora is a slice of heaven. It's peaceful, beautiful, quaint and away from the city traffic. A perfect place to relax and bring your family especially on weekends.
Chef owner Darren Pettit, used to work at Kazbah Restaurant (famous for its tagines and breakfast banquets) so I couldn't wait to try this place out.
We booked for a table on Father's Day brunch and the place was packed! Service was slow but that was understandable being a Father's Day. The food was made to share. It was wonderfully delicious and the tagine was great! We enjoyed every single dish. We'll definitely be coming back.

Knafeh Bakery Pop-up in Glenhaven

Knafeh Bakery pop-up housed in a shipping container continues to bring Jerusalem to the streets of Sydney.
It brings the whole community together in one place for a common purpose that is
to have a taste of these freshly baked, delicious and creamy knafeh.

You'll see bakers with big beards dancing and singing to Middle Eastern music while making your desserts,
keeping you entertained while you wait for your name to be called to pick up your knafeh.
For the unfamiliar, this popular dessert is a Levantine sweet cheese dessert topped with crushed pistachios
and soaked in sugar-based syrup. Also try their deliciously sweet Moroccan Tea spiced with cinnamon.

La Galette Patisserie, Merrylands

When my family and I moved to Sydney, Merrylands was the first place we lived in.
It brings back so much wonderful memories. Merrylands was a quiet suburb, central to many things
and one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse areas in Sydney but a lot has changed in the past few years.
I miss going back to this place for its food, the festivals, the library and I really miss my friends.

Merrylands is filled with Middle Eastern pastry shops selling delicious syrup soaked sweets.
I tell you they are very hard to resist and will leave you begging for more.

My family and I are huge fans of Lebanese breads. I used to buy them from this little shop called Milad Supermarket in Merrylands Road on my way to the library.
I would also be filling my shopping trolley with delicious and authentic Middle Eastern spices, Afghan bread, pashmak (Persian fairy floss), pickled vegetables and whatever else I see that will satisfy my Middle Eastern food cravings. Typing this is seriously making me want to go back soon!

Grandma's, Rosebery

Delicious dishes and traditional recipes inspired by Grandmas all over the world is what's being served here
but one dish in particular has caught my fancy and it is called Shakshuka.
So what is Shakshuka or Shakshouka? The word means "all mixed up" in Hebrew and Arabic.
It is a very popular Israeli breakfast dish of eggs poached in sauce of tomatoes, capsicums and
cumin served in a frying pan at the table.
It tastes even better accompanied by pita or crusty bread.

There's really nothing like the pleasures of hearty, delicious comfort food they serve here.
Worth a visit!

In the meantime, here is another version of the recipe by Gordon Ramsay
that I made called "North African Eggs".  (click here)
It it by far the most popular post I have on my blog.
